Welcome to the 2011 Baseball Canadiana Team Previews where I take a semi-informed opinion and attempt to tell you what I think will happen in the 2011 season. No yelling at me when I’m wrong; I usually am.
Most of each preview is strictly informative, just giving an overview of the roster and a few stats here or there to punctuate and give context. At the end of each preview I leave you with a chart of the team’s lineup and extended roster, complete with statistics from the 2010 season.
Three things to note quickly about those charts:
1) They are unofficial and incomplete. I only intend to put players on the chart who I think have a shot at playing meaningful time at the major-league level this season. Many players on the 40-man roster, for instance, are there purely to be protected from the Rule 5 draft and have little to no shot at playing in the bigs in 2011; I tend to leave those players off the list.
2) If a player’s statistics are in blue italics they are minor-league statistics. In the ‘notes’ column on the far right it will usually say what level the numbers are from; if it does not then it can be assumed they are from the only minor-league level the player played at in 2010.
3) Finally, the ‘age’ column indicates a player’s age as of June 30th, 2011, at roughly the halfway point of the season. For instance, if a player’s birthday is on June 18th, the column will represent their 2011 age, even though they have yet to actually have that birthday.
Finally, at the very end of each preview, I’ll offer up a short paragraph denoting my ill-informed opinion on how I believe the 2011 season will go for the team in question.
Oh, and one more thing: The “Top Prospects” for each team are according to Baseball America. I do not have the knowledge or qualifications to evaluate prospects.
